Talloni Anniversary “Truck” Show
One decade ago, Talloni opened its doors in Biltmore Park Town Square as a women’s shoe boutique for the fashionably inclined. To celebrate their anniversary, Talloni hosted a Hobo bags “truck show,” where guests could shop the extended collection of Hobo accessories inside the Mobile Hobo Truck, including all the iconic brand’s accessories found at Talloni. As a token of appreciation for ten years of support, customers who made a Hobo purchase also received a free gift. Talloni, A Shoe Salon is a fabulous shopping experience, offering your favorite high fashion brands in women’s shoes, handbags and jewelry.
Bone & Broth Opens in North Asheville
North Ashevillians were broken-hearted when beloved King James Public House shuttered their doors on Charlotte Street last winter, and that cold winter seemed to last through the summer when plans fell through and the once-active storefront gathered cobwebs and dust. Finally, foodies can once again satisfy their savory tooth at the new Bone & Broth, which utilizes neighbor Chop Shop’s local meats. The new restaurant holds onto that friendly pub-iness we all loved at King James, while offering even more fresh and local finds.
Lake Lure Polar Plunge
Crazy folks around the country brave the cold temps of New Years Day and swim in their skivvies in frigid lakes from Maine to Minnesota. Locally, that means a troop of swimmers gather on the beach at Lake Lure. This year, risky swimmers are in luck: thanks to the lowering of the lake for maintenance, the swim will take place at the Lake Lure Inn pool. The fun will go on despite the change in location, with a live DJ and a rowdy costume contest. It might be cold, but this event is hot!
First Day Hikes
New Years Day brings resolutions of all types, especially fitness related. If your resolution revolves around getting in shape, or even getting outdoors, might we suggest a First Day Hike? North Carolina state parks encourage New Years Day hikes with their guided First Day Hikes on January 1st, led by rangers and park leadership who offer guidance and fun facts to hikers. There are plenty of First Day Hikes to choose from around Asheville:
-Chimney Rock Park: Meet at the front gate at 8 AM and hike to the top of the rock.
-Mt. Mitchell State Park: Meet in the upper summit parking area at 1 PM for a walk up the Balsam Nature Trail.
-Gorges State Park: Hikes begin at 9 AM, 11 AM and 2 PM.
-South Mountains State Park: These hikes begin at 10 AM and 2 PM and climax (literally) with a view of the High Shoals waterfall.
-Lake James State Park: Hike the Paddy’s Creek Trail beginning at 10 AM.
It’s that special time of year again and the sounds of the holidays fill our Asheville streets: jingling bells, joyous carolers, and the plucking strings and drummed beats of Christmas Jam! For 27 years, Asheville native and award-winning artist Warren Haynes has brought this musical marathon to our city every Christmas season. Acclaimed artists Gov’t Mule, Bob Weir, Michael McDonald, Jamey Johnson, Alison Krauss, and so many more will take the stage alongside Haynes to celebrate the season and raise money for Asheville’s Habitat for Humanity. Over the past 17 years, proceeds from Christmas Jam have helped construct over 33 houses for locals. Visit XmasJam.com for more information and to purchase your tickets.
