Destination: Furniture 3

Shopping for furniture can be an overwhelming prospect. Hundreds of thousands of square feet stuffed with millions of models doesn’t exactly sound like a vacation—but what if shopping for furniture actually could be a destination experience? What if it were easy, carefree and frankly, fun? Well, it can be.

The Kincaid and Bernhardt Outlets in Hickory offer a wholly unique furniture shopping experience. Here you’ll find a manageable—but still expansive—100,000 square feet of furniture in a true factory outlet setting. Featuring some of America’s most reputable furniture brands, including Kincaid, American Drew, Hammary, and Bernhardt, at outlet prices, this is the outlet for Ashevillians. Plus, with a new vendor making plans to enter the available space in the mall, this selection is only growing.

“What we have here in this outlet mall is a goldmine, a really well-kept secret in this area, and this is a true factory outlet with major brands,” says Lee Davidson, who manages the Bernhardt Outlet. “What we offer is that trusted product at as much as 50-70 percent off retail, legitimately. Factory closeouts, factory errors, overruns, that’s what we get here and that’s what we sell.”

Jason Winkler, manager of the Kincaid Outlet, points out that shoppers often find one-of-a-kind pieces they love that they would have missed in a trip to a regular retailer. “You might find some things that are unique to the brand, one-of-a-kind, or a prototype,” he points out. “If you like the brand and their style, you might come to the outlet and find something that’s one-of-a-kind.”

Don’t assume that because they’re outlets their selection is limited; at these outlets you’ll find everything you need to decorate your entire home, from larger pieces of furniture to rugs, lamps and accessories, plus an in-house design team and contracted delivery.

It doesn’t get any easier or more convenient! Even the trip itself is easy. “I like to say, ‘It’s only two turns from Asheville!’” Davidson says with a laugh. Hickory is situated in the heart of North Carolina’s historic manufacturing belt and it’s been a hub for furniture for a long time, but the Bernhardt and Kincaid Outlets offer a unique shopping experience. Unlike other massive malls you’ll find in Hickory, these outlets are small enough to be convenient and to offer incredible service, while still affording an impressive selection.

Shopping at the outlet mall is more than just shopping—it’s an experience. “This is a true shopping experience. You actually have to shop our stores—it’s a destination,” explains Davidson. “It changes daily, our inventory rotates off the floor at a rapid pace. It’s a destination to come and look at the product; it’s not something you can search out and find online.” In this era of online-everything, it’s refreshing to return to our roots and indulge in a real retail experience.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect lamp, the missing pair to your favorite discontinued chair, or to furnish your second home, this outlet mall harbors the answer to your furniture dreams.
